First of all, if it is not a ROCK, it can not be called SLATE. The definition of SLATE is:
«Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, metamorphic rock, typically derived from shale, that can be easily split into thin, flat layers. It’s commonly used for roofing”
A rock can not be a composite or synthetic so it can not be called Composite Slate or Plastic Slate or Fibre Cement Slate ETC. It should be called Fake Slate !
Nature will never be imitated for several obvious reasons:
1.Authentic Beauty
Real Slate: Each tile is unique, offering natural color variation, texture, and character that synthetic products can’t fully replicate.
Fake Slate: Tries to mimic the look, but often lacks the depth, richness, and natural irregularities of true stone.
2. Superior Longevity
Real Slate: Can last 75 to over 150 years when properly installed. It’s a one-time investment for many homeowners.
Fake Slate : Typically lasts 20–50 years, depending on quality and environmental exposure.
3. Fire Resistance
Real Slate: Naturally non-combustible and offers top-tier fire protection (Class A fire rating).
Fake Slate : May contain plastic or rubber and could melt or ignite under extreme heat.
4. Eco-Friendliness
Real Slate: 100% natural stone, quarried with minimal processing and fully recyclable.
Fake Slate : Made from petrochemical byproducts, which are less environmentally friendly and harder to recycle.
5. Prestige & Value
Real Slate: Increases home value, especially in luxury or historic markets. Considered a premium roofing option.
Fake Slate : Less expensive upfront, but doesn’t carry the same prestige or long-term value.
6. Proven Performance
Real Slate: Has centuries of use around the world, with historical buildings still showcasing original roofs.
Fake Slate: Relatively new to the market—long-term performance still being evaluated.
If you want authenticity, lifetime durability, and top of the range performance—real slate is unmatched.
